What is Airbrush Tanning?
In airbrush tanning, the tanning solution is applied by a certified, fully trained and experienced technician using a compressor and an HVLP airbrush gun. Airbrush tanning solutions contain an active ingredient known as dihydroxyacetone (DHA) which is an ingredient derived from sugar, which reacts with the amino acids in the skin to create the darkening reaction or tan! It works with the amino acids in the top layer of your skin to produce a natural looking tan.
The generation of color is reached within 4 to 6 hours, so the color will continue to darken after the initial application. DHA has been used in cosmetic preparations for almost 30 years to date! Airbrush tanning solutions also typically have a normal bronzer that provides an immediate tan effect and helps the operator to distinguish areas of the skin that are applied and unapplied.
As the dead skin cells are naturally sloughed off, the color gradually fades. Our special moisturizing and bronzing ingredients make you look like you spent the weekend sunbathing in the Bahamas.
Our premium solutions are top of the line and is made from the best quality ingredients. It dries in seconds, has no bad odor, won't streak, or irritate skin. And there is no orange color.
We have 4 levels of solution(also in Organic): level 1 which is for very light skin tones, level 2 which is for light to medium, level 3 for dark and level 4 for very dark skin tones.
The Skin, Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) and The Sunless Process
The skin, which varies in thickness from 1.5 to 4 millimeters(mm) or more in different regions of the body, has two distinct layers. The outer layer is the epidermis, a thick membranous tissue and the layer of skin where the complete sunless process takes place.
Skin Color
Not including the sunless process, three pigments contribute to the skins natural tanned and untanned color: melanin, carotene, and hemoglobin. Carotene is a yellow to orange pigment derived from certain plant products, such as carrots. It tends to accumulate in the stratum corneum of the epidermis and in fat tissue of the hypodermis. Color derived from carotene is most obvious in the palms and soles, where the stratum corneum is thickest.
The pink tone of Caucasian skin reflects the red color of oxygenated hemoglobin in the capillaries of the dermis. Since Caucasian skin contains little melanin, the epidermis is nearly transparent in untanned individuals and allows blood's color to show through more predominantly.
Melanin, the most prominent pigment and is made from an amino acid called tyrosine. Melanin ranges in color from yellow to reddish to brown to black. Its production depends on an enzyme in melanocytes called tyrosinase. Freckles and pigmented moles are localized accumulations of melanin.
Sunless solutions are currently the most popular way of gaining a natural looking tan-like appearance without harmful ultraviolet exposure. The active ingredient in sunless tanners is the compound dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in externally applied cosmetics intended to add color to the skin. A three-carbon sugar, DHA reacts with amino groups in the proteins of the top layer of the skin, called the stratum corneum. The first step in the sunless process is known as the Maillard reaction, the same process that leads to the caramelization of sugars and the browning of bread.
How does DHA work?
All effective sunless tanners contain DHA. It is a colorless three-carbon sugar that when applied to the skin causes a chemical reaction with amino acids in the surface cells or keratinocytes of the skin producing a darkening effect. DHA seldom causes any adverse reactions to the skin as it only affects the outermost cells of the epidermis.
Concentrations of DHA usually range from 5% to 10% or more. This may coincide with product ranges that list shades as light, medium, or dark. A lower concentration (lighter shade) product may be better for new users as it is more forgiving of uneven application or rough surfaces.
Some formulations will also contain moisturizers. Users with dry skin will benefit from this. It has been routinely reported that DHA provides no protection against UV rays. To increase UV protection some products also include a sunscreen. Some ingredients may be added to assist product application or to make the sunless color last longer.
How long will my airbrush tan last?
Your tan can last between 7 to 10 days and with some people 14 days. Tanning extenders are a great way to prolong your tan longer. When your tan fades, usually the face and hands are the first to fade then the rest of your body. With our exclusive premium solution your tan will fade evenly, not blotchy but it is also up to you on how you maintain your tan.
Preparation & After Care Instructions
The Day Before Your Tan:
* For better results, it is best to exfoliate your skin the day before your appointment. This removes any dead skin cells on the surface of your skin in which will help you have an even looking tan and will last longer.
* Shave any unwanted hair the day before your tanning appointment. Shaving the day of or a couple of hours before your appointment can cause open pores to become absorbed with the solution resulting in tiny brown freckle looking dots.
* We suggest you schedule waxing and manicure/pedicure appointments at least a day before your tanning appointment.
The Day Of Your Tan:
* Shower a few hours before tanning.
* Do not wear any lotion, deodorant, or make-up. These are barriers to the solution and can cause white spots. We will provide you with a cleansing wipe if needed.
* If you choose to wear underwear during the session, choose a dark color, same with a bathing suit, however the solution will NOT stain!
* Plan to not get wet for 4 to 8 hours after the application.
* If you are pregnant consult with your physician prior to tanning with any solution containing DHA.
During Your Spray Tanning Experience:
* You will have a consultation with one of our certified spray tan technicians to help you decide what color you would like to achieve; from a healthy glow, to a medium, or dark tan. We will do our utmost to listen to your preferences.
* Next you will step into our private mobile pop-up tent and undress. You may wear disposable spa underwear(we provide them), your own underwear, swim suit, or nothing at all.
* Next your nails will be gently covered with a barrier cream to prevent discoloration and your hair will be covered with a fabric hair cover.
* You will then stand on a towel and our technician will talk you through all the positions you will stand in so that we can tan you all over. It takes just a couple of minutes to be sprayed and you will just feel a cool misting sensation. There is no need to be anxious about closing your eyes and holding your breath, when the time comes to spray your face our technician will tell you when to close your eyes and take breath. We will do everything possible to make the experience comfortable for you.
After Your Tan:
* Avoid any activities that may cause you to sweat.
* Swimming in the ocean will not fade your tan much. Swimming in a chlorinated pool will fade your tan fast.
* Do not shower for 4-6 hours after your tanning session. Ideally, the DHA application needs about 8 to 10 hours to reach its peak. After your shower, pat yourself dry.
* Shave at least 3 days after tanning with a new razor.
* MOISTURE! MOISTURE! MOISTURE! Apply moisturizer twice a day after your first shower for this will ensure a long lasting tan.
